Allow only single discussion on wiki index

There doesn't seem to be a way to have only a single discussion on the wiki index. There is an option to turn of comments or to turn them on, but not an option to only allow the main discussion.

I would also like to request that there's a global switch to only allow a single discussion per page on every page. If added, turning this on should hide the Current discussion: Main discussion text, since it'd be redundant.

Thumbs up - I was wondering when someone would notice the lack of discussion rules for the index.

On the other hand, I feel that a global switch would be redundant. If only one discussion is allowed, I think we can alter the Current Discussion heading anyway.

If you don't add a global discussion switch, having one of the following would make things easier:

      1. Allow changing settings for multiple areas at once
      2. Be able to change default settings for newly created areas

#2 is probably much easier to implement. I think some of your default settings are a little weird anyway, like having Pages sorted by oldest activity to newest activity. Seems like it should be the opposite.

Added this option for the next release. You can now limit the discussions on the wiki index via a new setting in Settings > Content Types.

Further, when the only kind of discussion allowed is the Main Discussion, the heading for the comments changes from "Current Discussion: Main Discussion" to simply "Comments".

The additional toggle in Wiki Index Options and Area settings for "Can have comments" has been removed since it is redundant to the "Allowed Topics" options. To disable all commenting for a node, you can now uncheck everything under "Allowed Topics". This changes the default behavior of an empty field for that column from "Any Topic" to all-unchecked. Thus the upgrade script will convert the value based on previous settings so that the same behavior occurs after the upgrade.

The default setting of pages sorting by oldest to newest was a bug. The actual default is newest to oldest, but it was always displayed as oldest to newest in the Area Manager.

A global switch creating a default for all areas was not implemented because it would never be applied due to the way area-level settings are considered customized at each level. However, a global switch for turning off the entire custom Discussion and Topics system has been created. It is accessible under Structures > Content Types.

A method of modifying multiple areas at once was not implemented because it encourages data loss. The closest thing we might be able to do is fix the regression of the missing ability to create new areas by copying settings from an already existing area. But that is really beyond the scope of this request.

      Closing this issue.
