In some cases, this is not possible to remedy, due to garbage added by the WYSIWYG editor. For these cases, it will not be possible to resolve until sections are made into actual database entities (https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/3259/). Please message me an edit link that shows this error, so I can determine if it's related to garbage markup or if section editing is actually broken on XenForo.

After reviewing, the issue here is that MediaWiki-style sections are being given edit links even though only VaultWiki-style sections are editable. It will take a little while to track down where the error is occurring. I suspect it only applies to XenForo.

As a note, I can't edit sections or the wiki pages either. I first tried to edit the section and got the error. Now I tried this and it has given me a problem.

Just happened to me too and I'm using the latest version.

I just tested this on XenForo, and I can confirm that editing WORKS for clean sections that are not surrounded by WYSIWYG garbage.

How do you propose we deal with this? I have sections that work well with bullet points etc, is this what you call WYSIWYG garbage? If so how can we bullet point/ use the editor that is built in without a fatal error being kicked back from the wiki?

If the section has a bullet point in front of it then it cannot be edited because separating the section out will break the LIST tag. When I have such sections in my wiki, they don't even offer an edit link. This is the expected behavior. If you are seeing an edit link for a section that cannot actually be edited, then you will have to PM me a link to it, because you should not have that option.

When I refer to garbage, what I mean is that users use WYSIWYG mode to add markup without seeing what is actually going on in the code. Sometimes you end up with empty bold-tags that are just there for no reason, and often you end up with bold tags wrapping other things that from a spec perspective are not supposed to have anything wrapping them. Sometimes you have something that looks fine in the WYSIWYG editor, but as soon as you submit, it looks like the entire web site exploded.

The vw_section_missing_error is a response where the wiki has detected that if you do this, the web site will probably explode. If you get this error, you should edit the full article, not use WYSIWYG mode, and clean out the broken code.
