A way to turn off unused items

I already have a big list of things I am not using with no way to turn them off.

      Report Tab

      Subscribe button

      The box for "tags"

The contributor line. If it actually showed all of the old contributors, that would be find. But in my case, the only name that comes up is the installers name, which in this case would be the member called: test

I also do not think there is a place to turn off the: View (previous 200) (next 200)

I have removed it from the navigation settings but it still shows. And if you do not have any additional pages, then when someone clicks on it they get a page not found. So then people start writing to admins asking what they are not seeing because they think there is supposed to be something there.

so I am going to have to go in and start striping all of this stuff out of my templates. which sure can cause problems down the road.

"View (previous 200) (next 200)" shows if you have a [ forumindex ] BB-Code there but it doesn't return any results (it wouldn't in new versions if it was pointing to a wiki forum). You can either remove the [ forumindex ] call or [ comment ] it out.

To save yourself the time looking, the report tab and subscribe tab are not templated directly (they use vw_tab_bit which is the template for every tab). They are part of a list of pre-defined tabs that will appear if certain conditions are met. There is no way to turn them off currently without making a file edit to alter the default tabs list.

Otherwise, here is what still needs toggles that you have mentioned:
      - The report system
      - The subscription system
      - Forum tags integration
      - The contributor list (can be a max contributors shown setting; a setting of 0 can be disabled).

It is possible to remove the forum tags by editing a template (vw_node_tags)
      And the contributor list (vw_node_contribs)
I think you basically just want to make those templates blank.

But I need the forumindex. How could a person use this if they do not have a forumindex?

Still seems to me there should be some way to turn that off if a person does not want it. It is unprofessional to have a link on a page that leads to a "not found" page.

You don't need to use the forumindex in many of these cases. If you are already seeing a list of articles below the page, then it is working without it and the BB-Code can be removed from your article. The BB-Code itself is broken in this version (doesn't show anything except that broken link you see). But we already have an open bug report for that, so we don't need to cover it here.

I guess I will have to play with that to see if I can figure out exactly how all of that would work in my particular forum.

I would also like to add that I wish we could turn off the "Wiki Areas" that show under the existing pages. But somehow I am thinking that must be part of what you are referring to above about the forumindex. I just do not see any way of fitting those pages into my current set up.

If you mean the list A-B, C-D, E-F etc with the folders that are under the main block on the IDwiki page (the wiki index), you would be able to hide those by setting all areas' Display Order to 0. I'm not sure, but it might mess up the order of the areas when you are using the search or creating a new page. There's still a lot we can do to improve the wiki index (and other pages), like giving per-page settings about what blocks are supposed to show there (e.g. the "Wiki Areas" block you don't like), but for now this is what we have.

      Ok.....that makes sense.

I think what I might to do for now is just comment out the Wiki Areas block from the template. I really do like my current index anyway. (plus it took me forever to get it just right so I am pretty proud of it after all the work that has gone into it)

I have managed to get rid of all of these things except the tabs that I don't want. You said it uses vw_tab_bit but I cannot even find that template to look at it. Is it possibly vw_node_tab instead?

Not that it matters because I looked at that template and see that I cannot do anything with that (like you said). Is there perhaps a php file that I might find some of that in that I could come at it from that way? If so, I just need the name of the file, I can figure it out from there.

Oh, is there a way to disable the RSS Feed? If not, then I want to add that to the list!

vault/core/view/factory/tab/vw.php in a method called "tab_list". For the time being, if you don't want to actually modify the file, you can add/remove tabs with a plugin using vBulletin's plugin system.

The hook is 'vw_tab_factory'. The variables $factory (the tab factory in the file), $tabs (the tab list), and $stack (info about the wiki page) are exposed to the plugin code.

There is now a toggle to disable the forum tagging system in wiki pages.
There is now a toggle to disable the subscription system completely. Note that users will still have access to the un-subscribe forms in order to keep sites compliant with CAN-SPAM, if there were some users who subscribed before the feature was disabled.

Added a permission for reporting in general (really only applies to the index), and reporting per area. Disabling this permission will effectively hide the tab. The permission will default to On for all usergroups on upgrade. The defaults are not changed for install (admins get all On).

Love all of the new switches, thanks pegasus!

I have turned off reporting but the index page can still be reported..... is what you are saying here is that we cannot get rid of it on the index page, that it has to be there?

I also see that subscriptions can be disabled, I sure wish that it would get rid of the tab too. Now people click on it and get permission denied which makes them feel like there is something they need to have that we are not giving them.

      There should be two permissions:
      Index Permissions
      Can report wiki pages?

      Area Permissions
      Can report wiki pages?

To turn off reporting on the index, the first permission should be turned off. The subscribe tab will still appear when subscriptions are disabled, IF and ONLY IF the user is already subscribed to the page. The idea is to let them unsubscribe so you don't violate CAN-SPAM laws in the future. If the user is already subscribed but viewing the subscribe tab leads to a no-permission message, then this is a bug, and it will have to be looked at.

I have BOTH permissions turned off, but still get the Report Tab on the main index.

This must be a bug then because I have tested it with an account with NO subscriptions and the tab/link is there anyway with a denied message if you click it. I have not tested it with an account that has any subscriptions.
