      Turn off synonym expiry

Please allow us to globally turn off synonym expiry date. This function will not be used at my site and I expect that various others will not use it either. It will only cause confusion at such sites.

Synonym expiration is only available for users with permission to delete synonyms (i.e. it equates to future deletion). It is also used for automatically created synonyms when a page is renamed. Most users who actively create synonyms will not even have access to see it.

I see. In what situation does future deletion have benefit? It seems to me that future deletion can cause lost edits? i.e. setting up an article for deletion will allow users to edit, but those edits will be lost.

At the current time, only synonyms have future deletion. It is used internally for 301 redirects, especially those created by an import, which search engines really only need for a few months. After that, the 301s can be removed to clean up the database.

Moderators or admins might also find use for doing this manually, so they get some form controls for it. This was added due to feature request: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/2516/
