      Class 'vw_Hard_Core' not found
intermittent but fatal error when page rendered in vb 4.2.2

I'm getting an intermittent error on page load --

      nginx log shows:

      Code:
2281697 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP Fatal error: Class 'vw_Hard_Core' not found in /srv/www/site/public_html/forum/packages/vw/attach/vwcomment.php on line 103" while reading response header from upstream, client: xxx.xx.xx.xxx, server: site, request: "GET /forum/private.php? HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "site", referrer: "http://site/forum/search.php?searchid=1527876"
As you can see in the log, this happens when viewing regular VB pages (PMs, threads, etc... any page can trip it, always with the same error msg); I can see no rhyme or reason to why it is happening, it seems to be like every 10th page load or so.

Disabling the plugin of course makes the error go away.

Using vb 4.2.2, and the latest version of vaultwiki 4 downloaded this evening.

      thanks for the help!

After troubleshooting a bit more, the problems i'm having start after visiting a wiki page, then immediately trying to load one of the standard VB pages (private.php, etc..) The browser shows an error:
      Code:
      Cannot decode raw data (NSURLErrorDomain:-1015)
The ngnix log entry looks like:
      Code:
      GET /forum/private.php? HTTP/1.1" 499 0 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9) AppleWebKit/537.71 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0 Safari/537.71
I've never seen a response code 499 before....

I cannot reproduce this on my installation. Try changing the Execution Order of VaultWiki's init_startup plugin = 1.

If this works then there is a conflict with another mod, and I will need a list of the modifications that you have installed.

it was set at position 1, the only other mods I have that use that hook location are --

      Easy Forms
      Aitoc MagentoVB4 Bridge

I've disabled both, so far no 499 error, but something interesting, once when a page came up, I got a warning:

Warning: apc_store(): Potential cache slam averted for key 'vw_areacache' in ..../includes/class_datastore.php on line 493

I wonder if this is related to the seemingly random errors?

i think i've nailed down the culprit, hopefully this will be useful to someone else!

APC has a bug with the "cache slam defense" feature, it throws out inappropriate warnings & terminates the client connection prematurely, leading to the 499 errors I was seeing.

It has never been fully fixed, and the PHP folks say that it is an obsolete feature (ugh... they should make sure it is off by default. in the version that ships with ubuntu 12.04, it is still on.)

The best advice that i've seen is to just disable it in apc.ini --

      apc-write_lock = 1
      apc.slam_defense =0

So far with those settings, everything seems to work OK.
