or, more to the point, once the bug is resolved, can I re-run the installer without corrupting the DB (I saw a whole bunch of tables being altered)

even worse, i just discovered that the aborted install messed up my site, the page /forum/subscriptions.php and /forum/private.php (i.e., private messages) now come up BLANK.

disabling the plugin (which shows version 0.0.0 in the vbulletin CP!) restores the functionality to those pages.

The installer was designed to allow you to re-run it as many times as you need to without corrupting the database. Not only that, but it usually remembers where you left off. If you are seeing this error, you probably downloaded the package prior to October 30, 2013. Please download it again as this is just one of the issues installing against 4.2.2 that have been fixed. See: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/3428/

As for messing up the site, this should not be possible at step 3 in the installation. No plugins have been added yet, so no VaultWiki code gets executed outside the installer. If your pages are showing up blank, there is probably a PHP error message that your site is currently hiding. Please edit your PHP configuration so that it displays the error message and so that you have more information about what's causing it and what action needs to be taken, if any.

      thanks pegasus

actually, i think the error was after step 3 - scrolling through the error messages it looks like it was actually doing step 4 when it croaked out with that error. I can see the plugin in my VB control panel, i've disabled it (it showed up as version 0.0.0.0 so I guess it never finished installing fully. once disabled, private.php worked again.

is it still OK to re-run the installer with the post-October 30th code? should i manually remove the plugin first?

      thanks!!

Don't manually remove the add-on. That will make it impossible to install without manually cleaning up the other database changes.

Just apply the post-30th code and Continue the current installation.
