      Permissions to translate
How to set the permissions for translators

      Hello

I want to give users permission to translate pages and categories. I set the permissions in the Vaultwiki admin area. However, the users still don't have permission. Can you tell me exactly what I need to do to set the permissions for people I added to the Wiki Moderators (Default) usergroup?

Adding users directly to the Wiki Moderators usergroup does not actually give them any permissions. For a user in this special group to get any permission, they must be assigned a specific part of the wiki (or explicitly All parts) that you say they are allowed to moderate, then the permissions with apply to that selection. The "Wiki Moderators (Default)" usergroup defines the default permissions used when you create a new Moderator in the VaultWiki Admin Panel under Permissions > Moderators, and the permissions can then be customized for each user you add there.

If you want to give the users permissions regardless if they are defined as a moderator or not, you should use a different usergroup than the "Wiki Moderators (Default)" group in order to accomplish this.

I created a new wiki group called Wiki Translators. I gave them permissions to translate pages and books. However, when the students try to translate they still can't. I checked to make sure they were added to the usergroup. They have been added. I can't figure out why they still can't translate. Do I have to also let them create new pages or categories if they are to translate them?

If the translation is a new page that does not already exist, then they need permission to create new pages of the same page-type. If they are translating a book, they need to be able to create books, etc.

The translation permission alone just lets them change what language existing pages belong to and say that one page is a translation of another page.
