Issue: Can someone explain what are areas?

I am new to using Wikis. What is an Area and how is it used? What is the difference between and Area and a Book?

Here is my situation: I am teaching a business class in China. Our business book is in English. I want to use the Wiki to have the students collaborative translate the key terms and learning goals from each chapter.

So I want to organize the Wiki in a similar format as the chapters and sub chapters in our text book. I will write out the English definition and ask them the translate it into Chinese and them discuss how to best translate the key terms.

I will also post questions in English and ask them to answer in English and then translate that answer into Chinese.
