As of Gamma 4, the Lite Version exists.
Licensed members can try it out by setting:
Code:
define('VW_IS_LITE', true);
in
vault/config.php
Alternatively, you will automatically have the Lite Version activated if you fail to include the following in
vault/config.php as of Gamma 4:
Code:
define('VW_IS_LITE', false);
Of course users who have not purchased a license will not be able to enable full functionality simply by editing their config files. Our compiler will take care of that by removing the blocks that are affected by this setting when we build the Lite Version separately for distribution.
This design choice has a number of advantages. First and foremost, the full version and the Lite version are developed as one product. If a bug gets fixed in the full version, the change automatically gets applied to the Lite version too. This resolves a significant problem we had with managing the development of VW3 Lite, where the code essentially forked at 3.0.0 RC 1 and changes could not be easily applied to one or the other.
Additionally, the Lite version is easier to test when users are having problems with it. We don't have to maintain a separate test installation for it, since all we need to do is tell VaultWiki to go into Lite mode via the config file.

I will close this issue once I update the compiler to output Lite XML with each release, and when the upgrade path for Lite has been written.
