Watch / Notification looks outdated and can easily be modernized. (VW4 alpha)

The drop down function is the same as the 2005 vbulletin function. As VW4 is a modern product released in 2012 and using modern js libraries, this UI can easily be modernized with a modern applet.

What is the URL that you refer to with the drop-down... there's a lot of Watch stuff.

So then is the function you're looking for a popup of sorts, or just a Quick-Subscribe / Unsubscribe and always use the user default if the quick version is used?

First it needs to be spelled out what the user should do:

      Select what notification you want:

Less clicks and drop downs. Show the available options right away without drop downs. It can be made into 1 click, by making a grid:

1 row for each option currently in the drop down.
For each row, add two tickboxes. Only one tickbox in the grid can be selected.
Once a tickbox is selected, the subscription can be updated. The 'update subscription' button is superfluous.
A confirmation message should then fade in and out. jquery/mootools have nice ones.

I don't know if AJAX updating is good for this, since there are multiple options that can be ticked. Sure users can only choose 1 notification type, but I believe there are up to 5 extra stackable options (depending on the page being subscribed) that can be applied in addition to that, which modify the content of the notification emails the user receives.

We can certainly do away with the extra drop-down though, and just use radio buttons.

I think the notification type drop down should be replaced, with something that requires less clicks.

The same goes for the Protect settings. That can be done with a tickbox/radio button

What do you think about the way XenForo and IPB do it? That is much more modern.
