      Templates

      I've been playing with templates and have a few questions.

      I created a new template page which works pretty good, I have a few parameters like:

      {{{name|no name yet}}} {{{description|default description}}}

      And on my wiki page I've used the template tag like this:

      [template]templatename|name=Test name|description=Test Description[/template]

      both of these work fine. When editing my wiki page and changing the name and description and saving, it rebuilds the page, puts in the name and description in the right place on the template and works great but I can see a confusing aspect to this for my users and that's the Template tag.

      I tried breaking the tag up a bit so that each variable was on a new line like this:

      [template]templatename
      |name=Test Name
      |description=Test Description
      [/template]

      This would make it easier for a user to read and change each variable as required and save it but the parser doesn't like this.....is there any way to do something like this so that it's not all on one line?

      Actually the example you typed should have worked. What doesn't work is what you actually used in your Nexus article:
      Code:
      [noparse][template]templatename|
      name=Test Name|
      description=Test Description
      [/template][/noparse]
      Notice the difference. This occurred because the parser thought the line break was part of the variable name, since it expected the variable name to start immediately after the |.

      Fixed by telling it to trim() the var name. Also fixed a bug when using an = in the variable value for unnamed variables.
