      Import Issues from Media Wiki

A few days ago I purchased and installed Vault Wiki. I used to have a MediaWiki installation that was integrated into my site with user designed software. I got along fine with the install. I followed the import instruction from MediaWiki, and all seemed to go through without any errors....However it didn't actually import my wiki properly.

None of my templates from MediaWiki seem to be working, though they do show imported into the proper folder. Only one out of several hundred images imported into the namespace.

      Site: http://http://alphaflight.net
Forum: http://alphaflight.net/forum.php The Namespaces are at the bottom under Alphanex

      Thanks

Check that the VaultWiki TABLE BB-Code is enabled in VaultWiki > Wiki Code Manager. MediaWiki tables aren't compatible with vBulletin 4's tables so this might be the problem.

As for the missing images, I see that 1 PNG file was imported. How do the many images that were not imported compare with that? In terms of file type, file size, uploader, etc. Please look at the filenames as well. Is there any pattern you see?

The last person who had difficulty importing images had a failed hard drive on their old MediaWiki site.

Thanks for your response. With the tables once I ennabled Parse BB-Code in Wiki pages? it made them show up. As for the images, there are hundreds of them, mostly JPG. The only trend I can find is that the one that DID get imported was the only png file. The hard drive is fine, it's on the same web server as VaultWiki. There is nothing out of the ordinary with the file names. most of them are one word, no spaces and a jpg file.

Check your vBulletin attachment settings in the AdminCP.

Is JPG registered as an acceptable file type?
Are the global limits for dimensions and file size reasonable based on the images you are trying to import?
Are the per-usergroup dimensions and file size? Is it allowed for all usergroups?

Since the only PNG file managed to import, I am inclined to believe that this is an issue with the file types of the remaining images, either they were not set as allowed or there is something quirky with the server's JPG support that vBulletin's attachment system is not equipped to handle.

In Attachment Permissions Jpg is ennabled.

Can use this extension = Yes
      Max File-size = 0
      Maximum Width=0
      Maximum Height=0

I'm assuming that in ths case 0 = no limit. The setting are identical in PNG.

Please try to upload one of the missing images manually through the Image namespace. If we get an error message, it will give us a clue to what went wrong.

      I just did so: http://alphaflight.net/showwiki/Alpha_Flight

Though it does not show in namespace images.

Although it's the way users are used to in forums, that is not the correct method of attaching files to wiki articles if you want to emulate the MediaWiki behavior. Forum attachments are linked to a particular user ID and cannot be used by other users in wiki articles (only you).

To create re-usable attachments for any user, this method should be used: https://www.vaultwiki.org/manual/Using-Images

If you don't get any error message creating an image in this way, I will probably need access to the forum in question in order to create and view the import logs.

Ok, so the plot thickens. In trying what you suggested, I discovered a problem with the CMS. Inserting images inline was not working. When using the "Insert Image" button to create an article, or in this case in creating the image listing as you suggested above, Images were not being inserted into the txt box. When going to "manage attachments" the uploaded image appeared, but was not checked by default, which is wrong. I can only assume this has something to do with the innability for VW software to import the images. This problem is effecting my overall site use.

Here's where things get tricky. When I dissable the Vault Wiki product from product manager, the problem of inserting images inline on the site went away. So Vault Wiki broke this function of the CMS, and this broken function made it impossible to import the images apparently. So, where do we go with this? I bought VW, but I have to disable it to have my site work properly, and even if my site has this broken function, I still can't import my images.

After updating to vBulletin 4.1.11 here, I can duplicate the problem with the editor buttons. There must have been a change in vBulletin 4.1.11 to the editor which is causing this to happen. I will have to investigate and likely have a separate Javascript solution for 4.1.11+.

However, this would not affect your ability to actually import or upload images using the importer or the Manage Attachments button, just your ability to use the Insert Image and Wiki Image editor buttons. Since you were able to successfully create an Image page via the navbar link, then there is something that the importer is missing to get your images copied over from the old DB. I have added an Import service to your Members tab here. Please fill out the information and I will have a go at importing those images.

I have continued the editor button discussion here: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/2629/
It is a separate bug and further comments about it should be directed there.

We will continue using the current page to discuss the importer issue of not copying images from a MediaWiki database.

The only place I see Import Service on my members tab here is a spot to check it off:

      Let Us Do the Work
      Install/Import Service ($34.95)

We will perform 1 of either a first time installation OR import data from another wiki you own.

If I choose that, is it going to charge me?

      Ben

Sorry, I entered the wrong userid earlier when adding the service. It should be there now. Once you fill it out, I should get to it on my next shift. Just wrapped up those editor issues you reported and I'm heading home for the day.

The images folder had hotlink protection. From here, visit: http://alphaflight.net/alphanexx/ima...apon_prime.jpg
vBulletin's uploader requires images to be publicly accessible or it can't get at the images. I've added a bit to the import config file explaining that hotlink protection can't be on and the folder has to be public. It looks like your images import is going through now.

Marking as fixed, then I'll turn the protection back on.

Thanks very much, I didn't even realize holink was on, I assume you modified it in the .htaccess I just turned it off all together, it's not something I desire. Good job spotting that. Not all the image cam in on your import, I ran it again, and got 400 more! Seems all there now. Thanks for your attention and assistance!
