How do I... only display two levels of a nested book structure?

Let's say I have a master book I am using as an index, which in turn has 20 or 30 books, each of which has a number of nested books and articles...

How do I set up the display of the first book so it only displays the top level book content and one (or two) levels below?

There is currently no way of doing this. I will move this to a feature request.

I've noticed that it would display only 2 levels deep if only books are nested, that is:

      Top Level Book:

      1 - 1st level book
      ---1.1 - 2nd level book
      ------1.1.1 3rd level book

And then even though there are more book as chapters in 2nd level books in will not display them. 1.1.1 doesn't get displayed when viewing the Top Level book.

But if chapters 1.1.1/1.1.2/1.1.3 and so on are articles (being in the Main namespace) it will display them when viewing the Top Level Book.

      Why is that?

And also when it reaches 1.1.3 (the last chapter in 1.1) then there is no link on the page to go to 1.2.

      Thank you.

Edit: So I somehow managed to enable 3rd level (using Clean Article Post Cache), but here it gets even weirder - it only works in 1.1, but not in 1.2.

There are more Books under 1.2, but they are not visible here. Why?

Is it just one person supporting this software?

Please forgive me as I have overlooked this issue several times over the past few days simply because I had already flagged it as a Feature Request and moved it to our feature backlog. Because of this, I didn't check it again when you made a new post. Please be wary when posting bugs that you create a new issue for new bugs, or that the existing issue is at least categorized as a bug.

There haven't been much except feature requests for months, so we have directed our attention to our development site where we are working on the next major version, and only check in on the live site once or twice daily. To be honest we didn't expect so many bugs to pop up all of a sudden when there hasn't been a new release. My apologies in general for being slow in getting back to you.

While I can't speak for everyone else here, I just noticed myself that I had email monitoring turned off somehow. I have turned it on now, so I should start getting alerts again when users post new issues.

As for this one, I'll need to create a really deep multi-level book and get back to you. Based on what I know of how the TOC generation is written, I'm not sure if there will be an easy way to fix this. You might have to wait for a new patch on this one.

It's OK to wait as long as this is really a bug and not just an option I've missed to turn on.

Is it abnormal for the second book (1.2) to not show its chapter?

      Thank you.

AFAIK yes, this is abnormal. All sub-chapters should be listed, regardless of their position in the list.

This feature is a simple change. Let's toss this into Alpha 1 and make the Book TOC slightly more difficult to debug

This setting is added under Settings > Navigation and appears to be working properly for the Book TOC and the reverse TOC. Closing this issue.
