      Smilies won't work in wiki
raw smily code is displayed instead.

For some reason smilies won't display in any wiki content.

I tried disabling all my other plugins just to see if there was a conflict but that didn't help. tried the default vb skin also.

The funny thing is that the smilies will display if you hit preview before saving your post, but when it's displayed after saving it just shows the raw smily code like :somesmilie:

I just tested this myself on my own site with the same results. Looks ok in the preview, but not when you actually submit the page.

This only occurs when "Disable smilies in text" is ticked. The article preview parses them even in this case, which is the bug. "Disable smiles in text" is ticked by default, because the namespace delimiter : creates a smilie in the middle of links. This issue was also fixed with this report, so it is no longer necessary to have this default. In the next build it will be unticked unless the user does otherwise.
