      Problems Renaming Articles

What's the correct technique for renaming an article?
I note that with admin permissions in vb you can rename a thread by doubleclicking on the title, however doing this results in the wiki thread disappearing until you rename it back.
If I rename from the Move menu, it gives me a "After much intense calculation, it has been decided that your thread is already in the forum that you wish to move it to. Deep Thought should be jealous." error.

Which leaves renaming from the Edit menu. There is a warning below the thread title "Do not modify this value unless you know exactly what you are doing. Doing so can radically change the page's behavior." which would discourage users from renaming in this fashion.

Anyway, my issue is when I rename from the Edit menu and leave the checkbox "Do not create a redirect when renaming this page" unticked, there doesn't seem to be a redirect being created. I had assumed the redirect would work such that anyone going to the old URL of the article would end up at the new URL of the article?

I tried to test this on the vaultwiki wiki but don't have renaming permissions

The AJAX title edit doesn't seem to be handled by VaultWiki, which is a bug.

Renaming from the Move menu only occurs if you also change the forum. This is a bug in vBulletin's inlinemod.php.

You should be renaming from the Edit menu. This will keep the page history updated properly. That discouraging message is still there because if, for example, you rename a template, it will break all the places it was used by the original name.

I suppose I need an example of how the page name changed to let you know if a redirect was actually necessary. It is possible to change the title and the URL still remain the same, so a redirect wouldn't be created. It also depends what version of VaultWiki you were trying this on; some versions had related bugs.

      I'm running vaultwiki 3.0.3 and vb 4.06pl1
I have an article called 'Canberra Stadium' at URL http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/for...nberra+Stadium

I rename this via the edit menu to 'Bruce Stadium', making sure the redirect box is not ticked, and the URL changes to http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/for...um?redirect=no

And now a visit to http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/for...nberra+Stadium results in a "There is currently no text in this page." message.

Fixed for the next build. AJAX title edits will now be handled by a pop-up editor with controls for Title, Prefix, and whether to create a redirect. Redirects are now working again. Redirects in recent builds were created but added for forum #0, making them inaccessible. Since there is little way to tell without being overly server intensive what forum the redirects are supposed to belong to, the forum 0 threads will be deleted by the upgrade process.
