      White page after install

      Hello all,

I decided to give the latest light version a try tonight to see if I want to purchase the premium version. Unfortunately as soon as I ran the install script and went to delete the install directory as told, I refreshed my homepage and it was white. I could not bring any part of the public site up. I was able to navigate the admincp though.

I am currently running a good sized vb3.8.3 on NginX with Sphinx search, with several of my tables converted to innodb. Is there a compatibility issue for me?

To fix I ran the uninstall from my products page.

I *really* want a working wiki solution, and will be a paying customer if I can get this running.

      Thank you

      Jester

If your homepage was white you would need to check your server's error logs or enable display_errors in php.ini to get an error message that could be used to determine the exact nature of the problem.

This looks like the dominant error, until I uninstalled.
      Code:
      2010/07/19 23:04:43 [error] 31294#0: *17134229 open() "/******************/clientscript/special_important.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 99.190.213.9, server: [url]www.*****************.com[/url], request: "GET /forums/clientscript/special_important.css?v=306lite HTTP/1.1", host: "www.****************.com", referrer: "http://www.w*****************.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15264"
Though I got a white screen and there are no errors with my IP address, so I don't know. If you would like the error log from the time of the white screen, I can get it to you.

      Thanks

      Jester

Yes, if you submit the error log, that would be useful.

How can I get the logfile to you? 60kb compressed.

Aside from the missing CSS, I don't see anything VaultWiki related in the log file. The CSS would not have caused your forums not to load. You didn't receive any alerts of database errors at the time? Did the white page continue occurring after you had created a wiki forum?

I never got to the point of creating a forum. I had 500 people on the site and was more concerned about getting it back and operational.

I will forward the DB errors via email.

      Thanks!

By the close proximity of the database errors you sent me, I suspect that these occurred during the uninstallation of the product (between dropping the tables and removing the plugins).

If these were all the errors you got, then I don't believe the white page you saw was serious. I believe that in the lite version there is an error message that appears if AN ADMIN tries to visit the forums before they finish installing VaultWiki. Sometimes this error message appeared before vBulletin had loaded the forum style, so a blank page was output.

      My recommendations:
      1. Turn off your board while installing VaultWiki.
      2. Try to visit your forum before creating a wiki forum. Are you confronted with a white page?
      3. In the adminCP, finish creating the wiki forum area as described in the readme. Does the white page disappear?

That was my take on them, I didn't think it pertained to the white screen.

I will shut the board down sometime soon and do as you ask. I'm thinking it's php, but I'm no expert. I am running NginX with FPM-CGI (fastcgi) and PHP ver 5.2.13.

      Thanks

      Ok,

I just turned off the board. I reuploaded all files and followed the install directions. I did not look at the site before I attempted the forum creation unfortunately. http://www.xxxxxxxxxx.com/forums/showwiki.php gives me a white screen now, I can see nothing. I went to my forums and attempted to post a new topic in the wiki forum. I have some template work to do to get it to look correctly but when I hit submit an html error flashes at the top and it does not post.

I have had to uninstall again to remove the formatting icons from the vbulletin editor....mainly so I am not FLOODED with questions about them.....since the wiki is for my eyes only for now.

Is the paid version written differently? Would I have better luck with that product?

      Thank you for you patience!

      *Edit*
I just went back and redid it and this time I did check the site before forum creation. It was white. Created the forum and then the site came back to normal. I then made sure I had all usergroup permissions set and loaded up showwiki.php - same result. White page.

With that setup, I can't see why you should even be having a problem with the lite version. (There is currently an issue with PHP 4).

To answer your question, the paid version is coded significantly differently than the lite version. It is quite insular, such that it automatically disables and doesn't load the individual parts of itself that it doesn't need.

However, there are portions of the product that remain the same. Without further investigation of how the code reacts in a similar environment to yours, it is very difficult to say whether the problems you are having are unique to the Lite version, your setup, or due to a conflict. If it's possible for you to set up a private test bed, I would like to investigate this further (would need edit access to the test /vault directory). I think this is the best route to take, rather than having you spend the money first and discovering later the same problem is occurring.

Understood. A test bed that you can access is not possible at this time unfortunately. Are there any known issues with other vb mods? I'll also ask my developers to see if they can find out what happened.

      Thank you!

None that I know of on the front-end. There is 1 admin-area conflict with AWC-Backend, but you didn't report anything like this and that is going to be fixed in our and AWC's next patches.
