      Rewrite Wiki as Content Type

This is something we've been putting off because of the time needed to do it, and the difficulty in making it also work in 3.x. Basically, the wiki needs to be changed so that it doesn't use forums, threads, and posts to store its data. There are several reasons for this:
      • Performance.
        • Having a dedicated content type can allow us to reduce the number of queries and joins when dealing with wiki pages.
        • Having dedicated DMs, search, and inline moderation allows us to significantly reduce the number of plugins required. This in turn reduces the memory hit to non-wiki pages.
      • Simplicity.
        • Having non-forum containers will make wiki config significantly less confusing, and more flexible.
        • Caching can be improved so you never end up with articles that "disappear".
        • Separation and improvement of wiki subscriptions.

In order to achieve a new content type, the following is needed:
      1. Setup a new development board that actually resembles this site.
      2. Admin area for Wiki 'Clusters', which would be used in place of forums.
        1. Admin area for Permissions in Wiki Clusters.
      3. Rewrite of Namespaces so they are just groupings for clusters, not abstract containers.
      4. Migrate existing articles.
      5. Rewrite PHP to use the new system.
      6. A dedicated wiki_ajax.php
      7. Rewrite search for vBulletin 4.
      8. A dedicated wiki_inlinemod.php
      9. A dedicated wiki_search.php for vBulletin 3.x.

I just discovered this kind of task where you can answer if you would like to see something implemented or not. Just a suggestion, but this kind of thing would be worth making it onto a mainpage or official blog, perhaps with e-mails sent out to current customers.

I gather that you still plan to support vB 3.8.x after the Content Type rewrite.

Even though inline moderation and search still need work, I'm marking this as complete for 4.x. Already did the Prefix, Area, Page, Revision, Comment DMs, and the remaining items should just have their own issues for better tracking.
