      Issue installing v3.0.0RC1 with vBv4.0.3

      Hello,

I just started a new webpage. The entire directory is blank and so I installed vBulletin v4.0.3 at /forums/.

The vBulletin installation went fine, so I downloaded v3.0.0 RC1. Then, I uploaded all the contents of the upload directory to the /forums/ directory. Then ran /forums/vault/install/install.php through my browser.

This was where my first concern came up. Most of the installation pages would have a blank background with minor text and what looked like places error messages or broken links would be. However, the installation "finished", but when checking the version in the adminCP it said my current version of VaultWiki was 0.0.0.

Am I doing something out of order or wrong? Any help at all would be appreciated (right now I had to reinstall vBulletin 4.0.3 and the VaultWiki hasn't been reuploaded to the site).

      Thank you.

Was anything recorded in your server's error logs?

Um. Sorry, I'm a bit new to installing forums and dealing with MySQL.

I have not seen any error logs; the only errors i've received were forwarded to me from vBulletin's alerts. Those only referenced when I removed vBulletin before re-installing it.

Also, I forgot to mention. I received a MySQL error whenever I attempted to uninstall the VaultWiki from the Control Panel (which is why I would just wipe my whole site and re-install vBulletin).

It sounds like you are installing it correctly. If you are getting the "VaultWiki was successfully installed.. blah blah... proceed to your AdminCP" message, then the version number should be updated correctly. If you're not getting that, and the installer just ends with a blank page somewhere, then you need to check your server's error logs for a detailed message about why that happened.

I can't really help without seeing the full error message. If you don't know how to view your logs, you should contact your host about where to find them, or how to display the errors on the screen as they happen instead of a white page. For new site owners, it's this method that I recommend.

Alright, I'll just save screen shots along the way of each process just to make sure that i'm seeing what I should be seeing. Any errors I get as well I will document. I'll update the thread once that's done. Thanks for the recommendation.

Alright, here's the step by step breakdown of what I do once I install the contents of the "upload" folder to my installed vBulletin ./forums/ directory:

      1. Went to /forums/vault/install/install.php to begin installation. Had to log-in due to cookies expired.

      2. Beginning of the installation:

      3. Selected Next Step (1/9)

      4. Selected Next Step (2/9)

      5. Selected Next Step (3/9)

      6. Selected Next Step (4/9)

      7. Selected Next Step (5/9)

      8. Selected Next Step (6/9)

      9. Selected Next Step (7/9)

      10. Selected Next Step (8/9)

      11. With no method to get back to my forum, I would enter my forum address to be shown with this message: "vBulletin Message. Go Back"

      12. There, I would access my cPanel > Plugins & Products > Manage Products. I'm shown that VaultWiki's version is 0.0.0

      13. If I were to uninstall VaultWiki I get the following. The error box at the bottom says this:

      Code:
      Database error in vBulletin 4.0.3:

      Invalid SQL:

      		ALTER TABLE thread

      		DROP INDEX firstpostid
      		, DROP vault_description;

MySQL Error : Can't DROP 'vault_description'; check that column/key exists

      Classname : vB_Database
      MySQL Version : 5.0.89-userstats-log
Also, according to my host, these are the top 10 files by the number of failed requests:

You don't need to uninstall VaultWiki. You just need to install its templates and update the version number (steps 8 and 9). The "Go Back" that you're seeing in Step 8 is actually a vBulletin error message that is blank for some reason. I'm not sure why this is happening, and not sure why the pages are relatively blank for you. I have not seen either before.

Can you give me Admin access to a test board prior to installing VaultWiki, and FTP access to the test board's /vault folder? These two things should help me track down why there is a problem. Please PM me with the details.

If you cannot do this, then you'll need to provide me with a more accurate screen shot of where it stops on Step 8 (the one with "vBulletin Message... Go Back"). To get a better image, you'll need to first correct the output buffering problem you're having (causes the white background and missing text) - the fix for that is posted here: http://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/1417/

Fixed in the current ZIP. This issue only occurs for new installs and upgrades of VaultWiki if performed after installing / upgrading to vBulletin 4.0.3. vBulletin 4.0.3 added some more constraints on template formatting, preventing certain tricks in vBulletin 3 style templates from working. This only affected 1 template, but it was enough to stall the installer.

@sorwah, your installation has been completed, you just have to configure the mod now.

For everyone else, you'll need to download the ZIP again, and replace your vault/install folder if you encounter problems. Then just refresh the stalled installer page, and it will continue as normal.

Thank you for all the help. I noticed the version number is displaying correctly. Also, I don't know if this issue is viewable as I marked a few "private".

      Thanks again.
