In 4.1.x, there is a new setting to create a nav-tab for the new feed portal. If it is disabled, a link to the feed portal appears underneath the wiki nav-tab. As long as the feed content-type is turned on, the portal is available.
The feed portal shows two lists of feed entries, taking entries from any valid feed in order of when the feed was last updated. One list for user feeds, and one list for collaborative feeds. The portal entry lists are basically the same as the standard feed view, except the entries are from multiple feeds, so in each entry we've added a link to the containing feed as well as quick watch/unwatch buttons. Controls have been included for visitors to navigate between entry view or just a list of updated feeds.
The addition of the feeds portal has resulted in the following being changed:
- The route vw-feed (wiki_feed) route, with no additional parameters, no longer points to the logged in user's feed list. It points to the feeds portal. Since this link required you to be logged into your own account, it could not be shared, so the change should have minimal impact. For your own feeds, you will now use the same public-facing route that others use to view your feeds.
- The vw-feed route with the "u" parameter, points to an entry list of feed entries in user feeds owned by that user. Previously it pointed to a list of updated user feeds owned by that user; a control is included for users to navigate to the old view if desired. We believe this change improves the overall quality of this "user-view", by presenting the feed entries directly.
- Individual user feeds have been moved to the new feeds nav-tab, so you can name the nav-tab "Blogs" and all the user feeds would look like blog entries.
Overall, this should increase the visibility and total usage of personal user-feeds. Since collaborative (global) feeds are also listed, visibility should improve as well.
The tab is enabled by default in 4.1.x. You can disable it if desired:
- vBulletin < 4.2.x and XenForo 1.x: Options > VaultWiki: Aesthetics > Use Separate Navigation Tab for Feed Portal?
- vBulletin 4.2.x+ and XenForo 2.x: Disable the tab directly using the forum's Navigation Manager.
