      Forms & fields

Its possible to create wiki templates, but out of my 180.000 members only a handful of people understands how to use these. It scares the hell out of the rest. So its not very useful in general.

What would be really useful is a form function that can be applied to area's. If a wiki article is created, then certain article chapters are automatically created. Some things are automatically filled by applying text and variables defined in the form.
Further it would be of immense usefulness if we could apply custom fields. Let us define custom fields in adminCP. Which then need to be filled in in the article. i.e. similar functionality as XR-Custom Fields(Xenreviews).

      For example:

      Fieldname: Plant Genus
      FieldGroup: Plantfields
      Fieldtype: single line text
      Autocomplete: Yes
      Select Wiki Area: Plants
Select field position 1: infobox widget
Select field position 2: article chapter > summary

I hope this description is clear. If not then let me know.

It indeed seems that way, but it isn't a duplicate, because I propose to move away from templates and make it add forms and fields which can be edited inline. Its the same concept, but my suggestion takes it a step further, also makes it more user friendly and makes it easier to manage from admin panel.

Adding the custom fields function will also make it a lot easier to add the infobox widget and the wikidata system, because it takes a step in that direction.
For example in the above example we have a field plant_genus. The value of this field can be reused. A site will end up with a lot of values that can be reused and more.

Okay, it was not clear from the first post that the request was asking for reusable data fields. I originally thought it was asking for an interface that could make templates more user-friendly.

However, your post above is almost entirely what has been discussed here as well: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/2837/

I should note that in one of my posts in that thread I warn that the "Default template" request is not duplicate and that fields should not be managed directly by the template system. However, there is nothing new here that I have not read in either of the other 2 requests, so I'm leaving this as a duplicate.

I would suggest, if there is anything else to add, to add it to the existing Wiki-Data request.

What I am requesting is a form builder that allows the admin to add custom fields to a wiki.
I do not mean any kind of bbcode or template code. The admin should be able to define custom fields through a field builder, so that the end user is not confronted with any form of templates or bbcode. The fields should be functional in wiki and sidebar widgets.
Fields should be grouped in field sets, so that there is an overview of fields. The fields should have a scope so they can be applied to area's, widgets. If possible to discussions too.

To further illustrate: please review the CustomFields addon that is included in XenReviews. Maybe you can implement support for that? It would be a major upgrade in VW functionality.
I feel that this request asks for something similar: https://xenforo.com/community/thread...12#post-833657

I would like to suggest the implementation of wiki article fields. reusing xenforo custom field functionality.
XenForo has custom fields for threads, resources and many addons have the same.

I suggest to be able to create Article fields in admincp. And assign the fields to area's.

Would it be useful to mark this suggestion from duplicate to considered/accepted or is it best to post a new suggestion?

I have voted no on this. (Apologies if I have been naughty be responding to another person's suggestion but I wanted to explain why)

Custom fields add entries to the database for users. User's can then edit these fields for their User account and they can be displayed on the sidebar, in message posts under the Username etc. I can't understand how what is being proposed would increase uptake of templates?

I voted yes on your other suggestion as I think that would have an impact.

We have nearly 100% uptake on our new site on infobox templates and the only reason was improving our guide: https://chroniclesrp.net/Folklore/Infobox_character
