VW3 had article ratings. VW4 does not. This is a regression. However, this is also a request for a significant enhancement.
There are two important functions in wikimedia that are missing or not working well in Vaultwiki:
Article Quality Ratings
Wikipedia / wikimedia has this developed well. Each article is rated by a Quality Scale. This rates the quality of an article in a point in time. See here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...#Quality_scale
Vaultwiki intents to emulate this by using something similar to vbulletins thread rating system, but it completely fails due to the fact that articles change in time: Ratings on an article in stub status have no baring on the same article in completed status.
I suggest to implement a 5 star rating scale (with half stars) and alt texts which explain the various ratings, ranking from 'empty page', 'short basic article', 'moderately filled article', 'substantial article', 'substantial & useful article', 'good article', 'great article' to 'expert article'.
To avoid short articles getting high quality ratings, there should be a minimum number of characters required before a high rating can be attributed.
Once an article has a certain rating and a certain number of characters are added / edits are made, there should be a 'needs quality ratings' sign to request readers with certain usergroups to rate the article. The new rating with replace the previous rating. The average out of the new ratings will be used.
The same quality rating can also be used to attribute reputation, likes or trophy points to the authors. For example: attribute X points to all users who contributed more than Y% or more than Z characters to the article.
Article Importance Ratings
Writers will work on important articles first. Therefore its useful to have an Importance Rating like wikipedia has. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...portance_scale
This can be a 4 or 5 scale rating ranging: unknown, low, mid, high, top.
It should be easy for writers to find articles that are rated important have a low quality scale.
IMHO these two functions are essential to Vaultwiki.
