Issue: regression: showthreads now longer works

This is a regression. We did not include it in Alpha 1 in the interest of releasing faster, but then we forgot to include it in a later Alpha. This report will serve as a reminder.

Maybe its a good idea to move this to a widget? After all the purpose of this function is to show related threads. Putting this in a widget would be a significant improvement.

Yes, that is best. At this time though, sidebar blocks are not configurable on a per-article basis. It's something we have wanted to add since we first created the sidebar, but it's a major new feature, and we didn't want to build something like that until we had a number of other sidebar blocks to choose from.

I think currently we still need:
Social bookmarks
Related pages (based on categories - I mentioned this somewhere or it's in our notes from a meeting here)
As a replacement for 'showthreads'
Something like an 'areaindex' BB-Code would create
Allow the Book TOC block to replace 'bookindex'
Polls

Otherwise, it is possible to make custom sidebar blocks already using BB-Code (something like this should ideally be utilized for infoboxes)
With DIV position="sidebar" and TABLE position="sidebar"

Does that mean that we will be able to place a showthreads widget in the sidebar?

Yes, but I would not recommend it. As in VaultWiki 3, the showthreads widget is styled like the regular forum's thread-list with multiple columns of info (icon, replies, last post, etc). Multiple columns doesn't translate well in a sidebar position.

I see. So the showthreads function is deprecated and replaced by a sidebar function that doesnt translate well in a sidebar position?
If I understand this correctly then I think its better to replace it with a sidebar widget that does work well. i.e. the similar content widget.

No, the WIDGET BB-Code is a BB-Code. It's not a sidebar function. The BB-Code has an option that allows you to choose sidebar positioning, but otherwise it will display in the article body. For the showthreads function, it is recommended to leave it in the article body, because it requires more width than the sidebar would provide.
