This is not going to happen in VaultWiki 3. However, in VaultWiki 3, there are still some things that can signify new edits. If you're using the default wiki thread icons, the icon will change if it's been edited. I believe it gets a green star or something like that (this would be made clearer if there was an icon legend, but there is already an open request for that). Also, I'm sure either the title becomes bold-face or gets the word "Update:" before it in the list. As far as I'm aware, these changes should apply in both the regular wiki directory, as well as in search results like those you've mentioned.
On the other hand, if you're talking about sidebar blocks, the standard blocks included with vB or provided by most third parties probably won't handle wiki updates correctly. I know some users here have created their own sidebar block that works as expected, if you want to ask around.
In VaultWiki 4, articles aren't threads anymore. The "Last Update" whether that is a new post or a new edit is displayed in the containing wiki directory. All new updates are displayed in the wiki's own activity stream sidebar block. If VaultWiki 4 doesn't do what you want when it's released, please open a new request that relates to the new features in that version.
