      Default 'Template' for New Article
      Have a Default 'Template' or layout for a new Article

      I was thinking (after a discussion with a wiki user) that it'd be nice to have a proper system where a 'page' can be flagged as default, with default content and layout.

      If this was possible, it would allow a new user to simply replace the relevant material, perhaps including a link to an explanation page.

      By their nature template parameters are BB-Code snippets, so it is logical that the fields should allow BB-Code. Unfortunately it is not possible in the current parameter design to specify what kind of data a parameter would hold.

      However, you can assign Custom Fields to the area to achieve an even better effect. Custom fields, by their nature, are defined with specific data structures in mind, and support some levels of validation. Custom fields are also presented when creating new pages, so if you want a "template parameter" that is say, a date field instead rather than full RTE, let's say for a Character Birthday (fieldid char_bday).

      In a template normally, you would achieve this with a parameter:
      Code:
      {{{Character Birthday|enter a date}}}
      But with a custom field, you would put the following in your template instead:
      Code:
      [var]field|char_bday[/var]

      That makes sense, we did some experimentation with custom fields, but together with this they might work for our user journeys. We'll do some serious experimentation when the release is out!
