While the inclusion of native lazy-loading in many popular browsers is promising, this will likely not be a suitable replacement for our custom lazy-loading script.
Can CSS background images take advantage of the loading attribute? #
No, it can currently only be used with <img> tags.

Since we make heavy use of CSS background images, this means VaultWiki cannot really take advantage of this. Until CSS background image support is added and the browser API is improved, it may only be possible for a small number of images, or with certain configurations. We will keep an eye on it, though.

In the next release, VaultWiki has implemented browser supported lazy-loading using the LOADING=LAZY attribute, for certain images, under XenForo 2 only, since XenForo 2 is the only platform to have itself implemented lazy-loading in this way. However, a majority of wiki icons and images will still use the lazy-loader bundled with VaultWiki, due to the extra features provided by that bundle that are not possible using the browser's support alone, such as lazy-loading of CSS background-images.
