Isn't VW Unicode compatible? I'd think this is a necessity because users don't know the difference between "XF" and "VW" and assume VW offers the same kind of unicode integration as XF2 does.

It is unicode compatible, but support for XF2's $config['fullUnicode'] (which is utf8mb4 rather than just utf8) is missing. This should be fixed in the next release.
