actually it is not possible to rename an area
ther isn't a further error-message

It has always been the case that areas may only be renamed from the admin panel. Please describe what happens when attempting to do so.

I think that you are experiencing this error: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/5585/
I'm not sure why the error message is not being logged, but I had the same experience when I tried to save an area.
