User Cannot Add Entry to global feed

Description: Registered user has been added to "Can add entries to global feeds?"

User cannot see "Add page" link on Global Feed. Adding all Feed permission does not make this button visible.

Administrator can click "Add Page" button.

User can promote an existing page to the feed.

Is this by design? It would be more convenient to use the "add page" button directly from the feed.

(Secondary question: what makes a Feed appear at the top of an Area. On my new install it did this when I added a global feed to an area, on my older site it's visible nowhere.)

If the user has permission to add entries to global feeds, but the user does not also have permission to create pages in at least 1 area, then the user will only see a button to Add Existing Page.

(Secondary answer: A global feed will appear at the top of an area if the user has permission to view the list of contents of the area, and if the area counters show that at least 1 global feed exists inside that area. If this was not working on your older site it might be that the area counters were wrong for some reason, or the feed was waiting for moderator approval, or it was actually a personal feed.)

Your tests with different users are using different forum styles. Please test the users using the same forum style on both users. If it is only broken on one style, then the template vw_feed_shell might need to be reverted in that style.

If this problem is not related to the style difference, please open a ticket so we can look at the problem more closely.

On your old site, your test feed does not appear to have any entries, so it will not have a featured position in the area.
