Suggest forum post text for wiki inclusion

This feature is a sponsored feature, also discussed in forum.

Forum posts need to have a button to suggest post content for wiki inclusion. For XenForo the selective quoting function can also be used. Please add a 'wiki' link next to quote and reply.
When a user hits the link/button the user is taken to a wiki selection function, so that the user can select the appropriate wiki. I suggest a single line text field with autocomplete.

Then the user is taken to the discussion page of that wiki and the text of the forum post is quoted in the reply box. Preferably with the following line above it:

      ---------------------
I'd like to suggest the following text to be included in this wiki:
      text from forum post here
      Link
      ---------------------

This function will allow members to use vaultwiki to centralize all information that is currently hidden deep within threads, by suggesting those texts for wiki inclusion. For this reason I think this feature request is vital for Vaultwiki.

I'd love to see this. Often discussions get missed... this would help make the Wiki more integral to the forum system.

I swear I've asked for this in the past, but I can't find it. I've had this on my mental wishlist for my ideal wiki for YEARS!

I found where I suggested this before:

Forums contain a mass of information, which is often buried deep into threads. For medium to large boards its impossible to go trough all posts to search for information should be included into related wiki articles. With a 'Nominate post for Wiki inclusion' button, it is possible to have forum members do the work for you and suggest that the content of a post or a snippet in the post, will be included in a certain wiki.

      This could work like this:
A user clicks the 'Nominate post for Wiki inclusion' button.
      The user then needs to:
      - fill in the reason for this nomination
      - select the wiki article which the text relates to (drop down or an AJAX autocomplete field)
      - select which part of the text should be nominated.

This brings the user to the discussion page of the wiki article, where the following is posted:

      ------------------------------------------
I would like to nominate the content of the following post for inclusion:
      [selected text]
I nominate this for inclusion because:
      [given reason]
      ------------------------------------------

Im very sure that I am in need of this or similar feature. I expect that our wiki base would grow a lot from it.

Is it possible to sponsor this feature for rapid inclusion?

Often times excellent content gets posted in the forums or other places that would make great wiki content. Allow users to "suggest" these posts to moderators similar to a post reporting function. Then allow moderators to easily create a wiki page from the suggestion with the click of a button.
This is not correct. My feature requests does not relate to moderators. The suggested text should be posted to the discussion page, so any member that wants to, can easily add it to the article.

As the feature is planned for vaultwiki 4 anyway, what donation would be needed to move this request and the other one to the near future?

In this case moderators refer to anyone with permission to create/edit wiki pages. It is likely that someone who is already able to do that would not need to "suggest" that it be done because they can just do it themselves. In the case where they might be waiting for group approval, this is another story. Perhaps the description needs expansion; I was simply trying to keep it brief.

As for a near-future prioritization, currently all feature requests are at $0, so it would not take much. However, VaultWiki 3 is already feature-locked so nothing will be added before VaultWiki 4. The fact that these are on the Sponsor page mean that they are already ahead of other feature requests for inclusion in version 4, except for those that we have not listed because they have already been prioritized for the first release (like easier template, category, image inclusion via the editor buttons).

The XenForo/IP.B features should be considered to be in their own class and are really competing only against each other, so they should not have MUCH effect on the other suggestions. It is likely other top-sponsored suggestions would appear before or alongside whichever wins this particular battle.

Aha. I think I have misunderstood the idea then. I thought it was possible to donate so they could get coded earlier. But it seems that my two suggestions are now competing against each other, while it doesnt matter to me which one gets coded first. Their both equally important to me.

As this suggestion is the only suggestion that has received sponsor payment, I wonder when you plan to include it. Does it work to sponsor suggestions or is it wasted money?

I'd gladly sponsor a few features if it means that those features would be implemented in the coming months.

Of the suggestions which were sponsored, Language Support, XenForo Support, and Wiki Parser in Regular Posts had more when they were listed and 2 of them have not yet been turned on in VaultWiki 4. I believe that once they are, the other sponsored suggestions will be added too. It's been an issue of "backlog" since it took so long to develop VaultWiki 4, but we are practically caught up now, so you will again start seeing more new features with every release, including ones that were once or are currently being sponsored.

As XF 1.4 now has selective quoting, this function can be used to suggest text to wiki. When a text selectively is quoted, please add a 'wiki' link next to quote and reply. When this is clicked then show an interface to sect the wiki article of choice. Preferably a single line text field with autocomplete.

      I like this suggested feature.
For a wiki integrated in a forum is a key feature in my opinion. This feature could give added value to VaultWiki.
