      Apple's question thread

      Hey guys,

Now that I have my system, I will undoubtedly have a million questions, and many of them might be stupid. I will do my best to try to keep the number as low as possible, but please bare with me as I'm a relative newbie with this stuff.

      First question:

When I created a page where the title consisted of two words, it put a dash in the title removing the space. In the URL it used a dash as well. I would like to kill the dash in the thread title (so it is just a space), and change it to an underscore in the URL.

      Thanks

Edit: Well, I figured out how to removed the dash from the title by just going back and editing it out. Is that just the way you do it, or is there a better way? Still wondering about the URL though.

In the AdminCP go to Settings>Options>VaultWiki: Server Settings

Now look for the option Replace Spaces in URLs? and press the radio button _ (underscore) from that point on spaces in url's will be a _ (underscore).

Ah, thank you, I completely missed that area of options.

I was wondering how customizable the wiki front page (http://www.vaultwiki.org/pages/) is. Is there anyway to determine which buttons show up on it, or is it always just going to show all the namespaces? Also, is there anyway to change the background image? Thanks.

You can remove namespaces from it by setting their Display Order to 0. In vBulletin 4, you can change the background image by modifying the template: vw-important-tabbed.css. I don't remember which vBulletin 3 template it's in, possibly vault_css_blocks.

Thanks. Would there be a way to add a link to something like an "About" or "How to Help" page on it?

There is no specific setting to do this, but you can add a link to the wiki navbar (vault_general_links template in vB4, I believe), or you can do something like set a Forum Link on your Help namespace, making it a link to "How to Help".

Back again, things are going well! My question relates to permissions with the special pages. Unless, I changed something, it appears the default for the Special Pages category is to deny access. Admins have access to the special pages, but users with the ability to edit wiki pages, and just normal users do not. Obviously if they were meant to be restricted, there wouldnt be a link to Special on the wiki front page. I could see why some of those special pages the general public wouldnt need to see, but not all. Im not sure what the standard is, or if I messed something up. Can I have some guidance on this issue? Thanks in advance.

As with most new permissions added to vBulletin, the default is to deny access. While I agree that not all Special pages really need a permissions switch, changing it would require a complete redesign of the way Special pages work. And it's difficult to imagine a system with fewer options that offers a similar level of control.

So there is no way to make the Special Pages available to the public? I dont see how to change the permissions for the special category.
